The new Maxi-lid turns the Maxikap into a 50-litre vegetable box with lots of space for potatoes, carrots, beetroot, etc.
Cheap to use
This means that the Maxikap can be used as an extra fridge in the winter months without consuming energy or adding to your electricity bill. So you might as well have several boxes at your disposal.
Frost-free storage
Potatoes, carrots, beetroot, etc., are best stored somewhere that is cool but frost-free! The sturdy polystyrene box is a good insulator and will protect your vegetables against frost for most of the winter.
The best results are obtained when the boxes are almost full, as an empty box cools down faster. The boxes will only need to be covered during extended periods of hard frost.
Location
The boxes should be kept somewhere cool and shady, e.g. a carport or garden shed.
It is a good idea for the boxes to be readily accessible, of course, and under cover.
A covered patio or a greenhouse is a good solution in winter, but take care that it does not get too hot on sunny days. In really cold spells, the boxes will maintain their temperature for longer if they are supplied with a little warmth, e.g. by being placed up against a house wall or the like.
